Adnan Sami recalls being ‘very disappointed’ with ‘Nain Se Naino Ko Mila’s initial response: ‘Suddenly it become like a cult song, and so it’s very much a part of my repertoire in my concerts now’

Adnan Sami has opened up about his initial disappointment with the response to his song ‘Nain Se Naino Ko Mila’, featuring Raveena Tandon. Despite having high hopes for the track, the singer revealed that it took years and the rise of television dance reality shows for the song to truly find its audience.

Adnan Sami on why ‘Nain Se Naino Ko Mila’ song didn’t work at first

In conversation with India Today, Adnan Sami said he had expected the song to be a hit, given its classical foundation and strong rhythm. However, the response fell short of his expectations. The 54-year-old singer shared, “For some reason, maybe it didn’t fall It definitely didn’t fall in line with the songs that had preceded it. So they were maybe expecting a similar kind of space to the previous songs, which this was a bit drastic and a little bit more experimental.“

Adnan Sami reveals how reality shows gave the song a second life

Interestingly, ‘Nain Se Naino Ko Mila’ found renewed popularity years after its release, largely due to the emergence of dance-based reality shows on television. He explained, “But the interesting thing was that a few years later, when all these reality dance shows started to come in, it was really, really picked up with a tremendous amount of fervour by the choreographers because it was a very rhythmic song, and it was something that really lent itself to choreography and dance.”He added that this sudden wave of attention transformed the song’s legacy entirely. “And so what happened was that it suddenly became very popular on television, and suddenly it just developed a kind of following of its own. It’s become like a cult song, and so it’s very much a part of my repertoire in my concerts now. But initially, I was very disappointed. I was hoping that it would do better.”
