‘The X-Files’: Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are ‘pretty sure’ to RETURN as Scully and Mulder in Ryan Coogler’s reboot

Fans of ‘The X-Files’ have one more reason to look forward to the upcoming Ryan Coogler reboot. Series creator Chris Carter on Thursday, shared an exciting update with fans, suggesting that both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson could return as Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for the upcoming venture.

Speaking to Polygon ahead of the release of the director’s cut of 2008’s ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’, Carter was asked whether the upcoming series could feature the original leads – Mulder and Scully. Confirming he reports, he shared, “At least Gillian, I think, is going to appear in the Coogler version. And I’m assuming David will too, so you will see Mulder and Scully there,” Carter said.He also stressed that he has not yet seen Coogler’s version, and hence his statements would not serve as an official confirmation. However, if the rumours are accurate, then the involvement of Anderson and Duchovny could play a major role in picking up the franchise where it left off, and directing the course of the future instalments.

Ryan Coogler’s reboot to continue original ‘X-Files’ story?

Carter also admitted that he is unsure how Coogler’s project could affect the possibility of continuing the original X-Files storyline. He shared with the portal, “I don’t know. When I see it, I’ll know, and so will the Fox executives. They’ll have a sense if these things are going to be in competition or if they are going to be complementary,” he said.

Chris Carter wants Mulder and Scully back

While Coogler is ready to take the franchise forward, Carter also made it clear that he is not finished with ‘The X-Files’. “I would love to do either another reboot, or another movie. My ideas going forward are big ideas. Whether they’re a TV series or a movie, I don’t know, but I have big plans,” he said.

About ‘The X-Files’

The original ‘X-Files’ premiered in 1993 and ran for nine seasons before returning for two additional seasons in 2016 and 2018. Duchovny and Anderson became synonymous with the roles of Mulder and Scully, FBI agents investigating unexplained phenomena, government conspiracies and cases involving the paranormal. The franchise also gave way to two spin-off feature films – ‘The X-Files: Fight the Future’ in 1998 and ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’ in 2008.

Ryan Coogler gears up for ‘Black Panther III‘

Coogler, on the other hand, is also gearing up ‘Black Panther III’, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 15, 2028. Coogler will write and direct the movie, which has cast David Jonsson as the grown-up version of T’Challa’s son.
