Pooja Bedi talks about her parents, Kabir Bedi and Protima Bedi’s relationship; describes them as ‘people who married well, lived well, and divorced well’
Pooja Bedi had quite a liberal childhood, heavily influenced by her parents, Indian actor Kabir Bedi and the late classical dancer and model Protima Bedi. From an early age, she was exposed to the world of Bollywood and its accompanying glitz and glamour. Additionally, her parents were quite open with her about matters in their home, which helped her grow into the person she is today. During a recent interview, Bedi opened up about living with such liberal parents and their relationship with each other.
Pooja Bedi on living in a liberal household
Bedi’s parents, Kabir Bedi and Protima Bedi, were a happily married couple; however, they also led a more liberal lifestyle and had an open marriage too. While talking to Vickey Lalwani on the latest episode of his YouTube podcast, Bedi opened up about their parenting method.During the interview, when Lalwani mentioned Parveen Babi, who was having an affair with Kabir Bedi at the time, Pooja admitted that her parents were in an open relationship. However, even after the divorce, she shared that they chose to remain friends and never made her feel bad about anything. She added, “My parents have never made me feel unwanted, rejected, the ‘cause of the marriage,’ or ‘the cause for staying on’ and ‘staying frustrated.’ I really thank them for that. I thank them for being unconditionally supportive parents, loving parents, and indulgent parents in so many ways. And, um, our lives have just gone from 10 to 10.”
Pooja Bedi says that she learned quite a lot of things from her parents’ marriage
Although her parents parted ways in 1974, she revealed that despite everything, they were one of her biggest inspirations, even concerning her divorce with Farhan Furniturewala. The two were together from 1994 to 2003 and have two children, Alaya F and Omar. She shared that her parents had a clean break, which made her very happy. She added, “When I look at my parents, I see an example of people who married well, lived well, and divorced well. With me and Farhan, we married well, we loved well, we lived well, and we divorced well.”
Pooja Bedi on how her parents handled life after divorce
The actress and TV presenter also detailed how life was for her parents after they parted ways.Recalling a memory around the time when her father remarried Susan Humphreys, she shared, “When my father got remarried to Susan Humphreys at that time, she had now changed her name to Ishel. To have her come during their honeymoon and stay with us in our home for a part of their honeymoon to me—that is very special because that shows incredible trust, love, care, and togetherness despite all odds. And I think that is the kind of stuff that should be talked about and valued and examined.”Pooja Bedi, over the course of her career in TV and films, has worked on many projects. Some of her work includes ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander,’ ‘Lootere,’ and ‘Aatank Hi Aatank.’ At the start of her career, she also appeared in many advertisements for well-known brands, which helped establish her in the industry. Other than that, she has worked as a columnist for multiple publications over the years, including the Times of India. She also appeared in the hit show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Ja’ in its first season in 2006, followed by her stint on ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’ in 2007.
