Upon discovering that an elderly Hindu woman named Mai has remained in the haveli, he chooses to protect her from rising communal tensions instead of forcing her to leave. Preity Zinta plays the female lead opposite Sunny Deol, with Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, and Ali Fazal also featuring in key roles.
