‘I am a Hindi film hero, I am immortal’: Divyenndu Sharma explains the ‘mistake’ and how ‘everyone agrees’ on returning as Munna Bhaiya in ‘Mirzapur The Movie’ after his death in the OTT series
‘Mirzapur’, led by Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal and Divyenndu Sharma, won over audiences and became a huge success. Three seasons later on Amazon Prime Video, the franchise is now gearing up for a theatrical outing with ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’. Although the film takes the story in a new direction from the show, it revives some fan-favourite characters who didn’t survive the series, while also welcoming new faces to the cast. At the trailer launch, alongside the cast sharing their excitement for the film, Divyenndu talked about returning to play Munna Bhaiya once more.
Divyenndu Sharma on Munna Bhaiya’s return
At the trailer launch, when Divyenndu Sharma was asked about his feelings on returning to ‘Mirzapur’, he said, “To begin with, it was a mistake, and everyone agrees. I am a Hindi film hero; I am immortal; nothing can happen to me.” Ali Fazal, who joined the stage shortly after, was thrilled to hear the crowd chanting for his character Guddu Bhaiyya. Taken by the enthusiasm, he remarked, “This corruption is real; all the fans are infected. There is a huge team in the Mirzapur family; I congratulate all of them.”
Shweta Tripathi on Golu’s arc and the show’s take on violence
Shweta Tripathi, who portrays Golu in the show, shared, “My character doesn’t like silence and violence; we have seen generally that those who choose violence are helpless, then he starts enjoying it. From Mirzapur, I have learnt that whoever chooses violence does get punished. Like Golu and Shweta, I just urge fans to enjoy the violence on screen.”
Shriya Pilgaonkar on her surprise return as Sweety
Shriya Pilgaonkar added, “The first season of Mirzapur, when Sweety died, I didn’t think I would enter the Mirzapur-verse once again. So I feel very grateful.”
Sonal Chauhan on joining the ‘Mirzapur’ universe
New addition to the Mirzapur universe, Sonal Chauhan, expressed, “I am so excited to be a part of the film. I have been a huge fan of Mirzapur. I am going to bring a storm in Mirzapur; whatever you see is going to leave you mind-blown. I am sure every Mirzapur fan will have a blast.”
‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ cast and release date
‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ sees the return of its original ensemble, including Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sheeba Chaddha, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Ali Fazal, Abhishek Banerjee, Shweta Tripathi and Rajesh Tailang, joined by new faces Sonal Chauhan, Ravi Kishan, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik and Jeetendar Kumar. The film is set to release in theatres on September 4.
