Jaguar TCS Racing has set a Guinness World Record by creating a giant GPS drawing of its Jaguar I-TYPE 7 across the streets of London. The drawing covered more than 100km and was completed by 29 runners ahead of this weekend’s London E-Prix. The record was set as Jaguar TCS Racing prepares for the Formula E season finale on August 15 and 16. The London races will also mark the end of the GEN3 era in Formula E.
Jaguar TCS Racing sets Guinness World Record to mark end of GEN3 era
The record-breaking run was carried out by members of Jaguar TCS Racing and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the team’s Official Title and Technology Partner. The 29 runners completed a route of more than 100km, with the GPS route creating the outline of the Jaguar I-TYPE 7.The route started and finished at TCS’ London headquarters. Each runner carried a GPS device, which was passed to the next runner like a baton. The attempt had to meet Guinness World Records’ requirements, including recognisable artwork, continuous route mapping, timestamped GPS files and full participant records.The full image of the record-breaking GPS route will be released at 9am BST on Wednesday, August 12.ID@undefined Caption not available.
Record celebrates Jaguar’s GEN3 success
The giant GPS drawing was created as a tribute to Jaguar TCS Racing’s success during the GEN3 era of Formula E.The team has won 18 races across the four seasons of the GEN3 era, more than any other team. Jaguar TCS Racing has also secured 23 more podium finishes and scored 1,144 points during the era.ID@undefined Caption not available.The team also set a second Guinness World Record by having 109 participants take part in a racing simulator video game relay.The relay was held on the virtual 2km London ExCeL track at Jaguar TCS Racing’s technical headquarters.
Jaguar celebrates record-breaking GEN3 era
Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal Ian James said the Guinness World Records were a fitting way to mark the end of the GEN3 era.“GEN3 has been a record-breaking era for the team, and what better way to mark it than by officially putting our name into the Guinness World Record books ahead of this weekend’s London E-Prix,” James said.TCS Chief Marketing Officer Abhinav Kumar said the record brought together the qualities needed in running and motorsport. “Running marathons and motorsport racing requires similar qualities: endurance, intelligence, and executing a winning race strategy; mile after mile, lap after lap,” Kumar said.He added: “So, it was natural to bring the two sports together by running side-by-side with Jaguar TCS Racing across London to trace the outline of the Jaguar I-TYPE 7 and set another world record.”
Jaguar heads to London with title hopes
Jaguar TCS Racing will head into its home races in London with a 14-point lead over Porsche in the Teams’ World Championship. The team is chasing its second Teams’ World title in three seasons.Mitch Evans is also fighting for his first Drivers’ World Championship. He is second in the standings, just two points behind leader Jake Dennis. London will be particularly important for Evans as the two races will be his final starts for Jaguar TCS Racing after 10 years with the team.Antonio Felix da Costa is also still in the title race.
