Pmay-U: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban: Govt says 1.25 crore houses sanctioned, 1 crore delivered
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) and PMAY-U 2.0 have crossed 1.25 crore sanctioned houses, of which more than 1 crore have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries across the country, according to the Ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA).The scheme has also recorded a significant share of women beneficiaries, with 1 crore of the 1.25 crore sanctioned houses allotted to women, either in the name of the female head of the household or through joint ownership, said the ministry in a press release on Sunday.At the 8th meeting of the central sanctioning and monitoring committee (CSMC) under PMAY-U 2.0, held on August 6 in New Delhi, the government sanctioned 2.09 lakh additional houses for economically weaker section (EWS) families.The houses were sanctioned across Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.Of the 2.09 lakh houses, around 1.42 lakh were sanctioned under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) vertical, under which beneficiaries receive financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh to construct pucca houses on their own land.Another 67,045 houses were sanctioned under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) vertical, under which affordable housing projects are developed by public or private agencies in partnership with states and UTs, with eligible EWS beneficiaries receiving central assistance for allotted houses.With the latest approvals, the total number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 has crossed 18.38 lakh. This includes 14.40 lakh BLC houses, 2.48 lakh AHP houses, 1.36 lakh houses under the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) and 13,046 houses under Affordable Rental Housing (ARH).The latest CSMC meeting also recorded 2.03 lakh houses allotted to women, while 16,662 houses were allotted to senior citizens. Of the houses sanctioned, 21,954 were for SC beneficiaries, 14,252 for ST beneficiaries and 75,511 for OBC beneficiaries.The government is also reviewing the implementation of PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 across states and UTs, including the grounding and completion of sanctioned houses, geo-tagging, fund utilisation, beneficiary verification and occupancy status.
What is PMAY-U 2.0?
PMAY-U 2.0 builds on the original PMAY-U, launched in June 2015 under the Housing for All mission. The new phase aims to address the housing needs of 1 crore additional eligible EWS, LIG and MIG families in urban India, with an annual household income limit of Rs 9 lakh.The scheme has four components: Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) for those building homes on their own land; Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) for homes developed through public/private partnerships; Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) for eligible home loans; and Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) for rental accommodation.
