An Indian national was found dead inside an apartment in Jerusalem‘s Katamon neighbourhood on Thursday, with Israeli police arresting a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder. The 40-year-old victim was “found lying on the floor with blood” around him, and authorities said the case is being investigated as a suspected criminal offence. His identity has not yet been disclosed.“Following the earlier report regarding a 40-year-old foreign national from India who was found dead in an apartment in the Katamon neighbourhood of Jerusalem, officers from the Moria Police Station arrived quickly at the scene and launched an initial investigation together with forensic investigators,” the Israel Police Spokesperson’s Unit said, according to PTI.“The preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that the incident is suspected to be criminal in nature,” the police added.

Police said they quickly identified and arrested a 31-year-old resident of Eilat on suspicion of involvement in the murder. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is in custody and is being questioned.According to The Times of Israel, the victim was found lying on the floor inside the apartment with blood around him. Israeli news outlet Ynetnews reported that investigators suspect the killing has a criminal background.Jerusalem District Commander Avshalom Peled visited the crime scene and held a review meeting with senior officers. Following the initial assessment, he directed that the investigation be handed over to the Jerusalem District Central Unit (YAMAR).In a video released by the police, Chief Superintendent Yuval Reuven, commander of the Moria Police Station, described the discovery.“In the Jerusalem District, at the Moriah Station, an incident was reported involving a person found in a house, covered in a significant amount of blood.”He said officers immediately secured the scene and launched an investigation.“Police officers arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and began initial investigative operations. During the investigation, a suspect for the murder was located.” Reuven added that investigators moved swiftly to detain the suspect.“The investigation led to the swift arrest of the suspected individual involved in the murder. Currently, additional investigative operations are underway to determine the truth about the incident.”The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and police said the investigation is ongoing.
