‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, starring Tom Holland, witnessed a sharp decline in collections on its third Friday at the Indian box office as Emraan Hashmi-starrer ‘Awarapan 2’ made a strong start at the Indian box office.

On Day 16, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ collected an estimated Rs 3.90 crore net across 3,310 shows, reported Sacnilk. Its India gross collection for the day stood at approximately Rs 4.67 crore, making it the film’s lowest single-day collection so far.The Day 16 figure saw a decline of around 27.8% from Thursday, when the superhero film earned Rs 5.40 crore net as it concluded its second week in theatres.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ total collections
With the latest figures, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has taken its India net collection to approximately Rs 447.30 crore. Its India gross collection currently stands at around Rs 534.76 crore.The film, which earned Rs 334.75 crore in its first week, earned an estimated Rs 108.65 crore in its second week. With the film now beginning its third week, with a collection under Rs 5 crore, it remains to be seen if it can cross the Rs 550 crore mark by the end of the week.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ vs ‘Awarapan’
The film’s third-week slowdown comes as it faces fresh competition from the Bollywood film ‘Awarapan 2’, which arrived in theatres on Friday and recorded a strong opening. Emraan Hashmi’s return as Shivam Pandit has generated considerable audience interest, with the film recording an estimated Rs 21 crore net and around Rs 27 crore worldwide gross on its opening day, according to early estimates.The opening has also given Hashmi the biggest first-day collection of his career, surpassing the Rs 12.60 crore opening recorded by ‘Baadshaho’ in 2017.While ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ had dominated the first two weeks, the arrival of ‘Awarapan 2’ has introduced a strong new competitor, particularly in the Hindi-speaking markets.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ enters third weekend
Despite the drop, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has built a substantial lead over its theatrical run, with more than Rs 447 crore net collected in India so far. The film is also the highest-grossing Hollywood movie in India, surpassing ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers’ to rake in over Rs 500 crore. If the film can get another boost over the weekend and score in double digits, it could take its lifetime box office collections past the Rs 600 crore mark.
