‘Ramayana‘ director Nitesh Tiwari, actor Ranbir Kapoor and producer Namit Malhotra have addressed the criticism surrounding the film’s visual effects, and other computer generated work on the film. The trio, who were recently in the US, promoting their film, got candid about the extensive work that went into bringing the ambitious epic to life.

Nitesh Tiwari confirms finishing touches for ‘Ramayana: Part 1’

During an interview with Collider, the team discussed the progress of the film and responded to the criticism it has faced online. When asked about the completion of Part 1, director Tiwari confirmed, “We are sorted, the edit is locked. At the moment we are busy giving finishing touches to our VFX work which is a very very daunting task.”“If you see the film, you’ll realise how much hard work has gone into purely getting the VFX in place,” he added.

Ranbir Kapoor defends ‘Ramayana’ CGI

Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama in the film, also responded to criticism of the visual effects, arguing that, “People don’t know how CGI is done. People think that someone just used some AI and released something.” He went on to highlight, “There’s countless hours of work where artists have been working for years. I’ve seen Nitesh sir or Namit sitting on VFX calls ever since this project started. Trying to get even a certain colour of the sky right.““I think it is tricky right now to impress the audience with authentic CGI,” he added.

Namit Malhotra on criticism surrounding ‘Ramayana’

Producer Namit Malhotra also acknowledged that the film has faced considerable discussion and criticism online. Sharing how the team has been trying to educate people about all that went into the making of the film, he said, “We’ve had a lot of that noise that’s also happening and we are doing what we can, to a large number of creators and influencers, to sort of educate them about giving the film a fair appraisal of what it is supposed to be.“

Tiwari further acknowledged the difficulty, saying, “The sad reality is that if somebody is hell-bent on nitpicking, your biggest effort will be ignored and your smallest mistake would be amplified.”Backed by Namit Malhotra and directed by Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ stars Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film also features a large ensemble cast and music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.The epic is planned as a two-part theatrical release, with the first instalment scheduled to arrive on November 6, 2026 in international markets and November 8, in India, on the occasion of Diwali.
