‘Animal’ actor Saurabh Sachdeva believes that the unpredictability of what will click with the audience could be cinema’s greatest strength. The actor, set to star in Nitesh Tiwari‘s ‘Ramayana‘ and who most recently featured in ‘Satluj’ said that not knowing what will work keeps the creative process alive.
Saurabh Sachdeva says uncertainty is the mother of creativity
In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Saurabh Sachdev said, “We don’t know what kind of success we will get from which project. We don’t know which film will work or not.” He added, “I always think that’s the best place because uncertainty is the mother of creativity. The more uncertainty we have, the more curious we will be and the more on the edge we will be to make the right project.”His comments come at a time of growing conversation around formula-driven filmmaking and after the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer ‘Satluj’ made headlines when it was pulled from ZEE5 in India just two days after its digital release.
Saurabh Sachdeva says filmmakers should experiment, not play safe
For Saurabh Sachdeva, unpredictability should push filmmakers toward experimentation instead of relying on tried-and-tested formulas. He said, “If there is no uncertainty in life, we don’t know what will work. We are uncertain, then it works more. I feel it creates more great work. And I think that should happen. If we start playing safe, then we will get bored and we will start making bad films, which was happening.”He added, “We don’t know what will work, so we are trying to do something new. And the formula that we are trying to do is not working, so it’s better to do something new. I think that’s right.”
Saurabh Sachdeva shares business and creativity must go together
While backing creative risk-taking, Saurabh Sachdeva acknowledges that films cannot ignore commercial realities. “Business and creativity have to go together,” he said, noting that a producer’s investment shapes the scale of a film. However, he cautions against judging films purely by numbers. He said, “With the numbers, the film cannot be judged. That film can be judged itself, because the numbers are eating the film. We are only running after that. So we are selling anything, let’s run after the numbers, and we are lying to people in any way.”

Saurabh Sachdeva is set to play the role of Maarich in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic ‘Ramayana’. For the uninitiated, Maarich is Ravana’s demon uncle. The movie is set to hit theatres on November 8, 2026 in India.
